No matter how often you clean your rugs, or what products you use, you cannot help but have to deal with rug mud stains. Sometimes they will easily be removed; other times it won't matter how long you scrub for, or with what products, no matter what you try you just won't be able to shift them. So what is the solution? Usually the solution is to call in the experts for a proper, thorough, comprehensive cleaning. But you can also take things into your own hands and - with the right products - remove the stains pretty easily yourself. The good news is that since a lot of rugs are stain resistant, that means that if you get a stain on your rug, you do have time to treat it. You should first try and remove as much of the spill as possible as well as absorbing the liquid. Then dab it with warm water, followed by (if necessary) mild non-bleach laundry detergent and warm water. Leave that to soak for 5-10 minutes and rinse it off with warm water and then blot it. Once it seems dry, vacuum the area and see the results.
Better still, there are products that can be used specifically for certain stains. The most common ones include: alcohol, blood (warm water and detergent); asphalt, butter (dry cleaning solution, followed by warm water and detergent); chewing gum, wax (freeze it; shatter it; vacuum; dry cleaning solvent, water and detergent); vomit (warm water, detergent, dry cleaning solvent); make up, shoe polish (dry cleaning solvent followed by warm water and detergent) so it is worth trying to deal with these yourself immediately.
